A mine worker has died following a truck accident at Rix’s Creek coal mine near Singleton, New South Wales last week.
The incident happened on Tuesday when the 53-year-old haulage driver was cleaning mud from his truck and the truck’s tailgate swung down and hit him on the head, the Daily Telegraph reports.
He was transported by Westpac Rescue helicopter to the John Hunter Hospital for surgery but later died on Friday.
The mine’s owner and operator, Bloomfield Group, extended their condolences and offered support to the man’s family and workers who were affected by the accident.
The department of industry has launched an investigation and will prepare a report for the coroner.
This is the seventh mining related death in Australia this year.
