Woman becomes chair of NSW Minerals Council for first time

Northparkes mines managing director Stefanie Loader is the new chair of the NSW Minerals Council.

Loader is the first woman to hold the chair position at the council and said she was looking forward telling the industry’s positive stories.

"My key priority will be to continue to tell the story of our mining communities and build on the good work that we've done to date in working together with and also educating the community,” Loader said.

“I want to continue to broaden the image of our industry, which we do by proactively telling the stories of the great people working in mining while also listening to our community and key stakeholders.”

Coming from a metals background, with Northparkes mine producing copper and gold, Loader said she was keen to learn more about coal and has already spent time underground in the western coalfields and visited open cut operations in the Hunter Valley.

CEO of NSW Minerals Council Stephen Galilee said Loader is a role model for women in the industry.

“I look forward to working with her as we seek to address industry challenges and maximise opportunities for mining communities across the state,” Galilee said.

Last year Australian Mining named Loader as one of the 10 influential women in mining.
