Wind powered mine Australian first

In a move that is sure to please environmental activists, Tectonic Resources has announced the Phillips River Project could be the first wind powered mining operation in Australia.

Tectonic’s managing director told the Esperance Express that the mine, located between Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun in Western Australia could completely change the Australian mining industry.

Some mining operations in Canada already use wind power.

“We’ve done some fairly detailed studies on it, and we do know it’s possible,” he said.

“There’s enough wind and the wind directions and the location is suitable so it is feasible to do.”

Stirbinskis went on to say some of the problems they are likely to face includes the expense involved with operating a mine with wind power.
