HEAVY swells caused by cyclone Nicholas off the Western Australia coast have forced Yilgarn Infrastructure to suspend its drilling programme at Oakajee Port.

The drill-rig operating on-site was towed to Geraldton Port for safety.

The rig was completing geotechnical investigations for the feasibility studies into the Oakajee Port development.

The investigations determine dredging risks, which influence costs and design.
