WEARBACK: the transfer chute solution for reducing OPEX spend

WEARX’s WEARBACK transfer chute is the solution for maximising chute availability and eliminating significant down time costs.

Poorly designed transfer chutes lead to costly downtime caused by blockages, spillage, skirt wear and belt wear. These issues have the potential to slow down an entire operation and significantly reduce output.

WEARBACK is designed with a series of ledges protected by a patented white iron ledge liner. The ledges allow material to build up throughout the transfer and form a layer of material as the wear medium. Soft loading to the outgoing conveyor is achieved by delivering material at velocities that closely match the conveyor speed. WEARX’s experience has determined that this ‘rock on rock’ design delivers four times more wear life than conventionally designed transfer chutes.

WEARX’s experience and results are the primary reasons why Roy Hill chose the WEARBACK transfer chute design for the Roy Hill Port Expansion Project. WEARX designed, manufactured and supplied twenty-four WEARBACK chutes in total for this project.

Each WEARBACK chute is custom designed and manufactured to meet individual plant needs. This is achieved through Discrete Element Modelling (DEM), FEA (finite element analysis) and, where applicable, Physical Modelling. These techniques provide a real-life simulation and accurate results that can be used with confidence to validate new designs and check the performance of proposed modifications.

These design techniques enable our team to accurately predict the performance and wear life of each transfer chute in the mine site’s operational environment. This predictability and increase in wear life has shown to improve safety on site by reducing the maintenance time required to be performed.
