Underground mine worker pinned by coal conveyor, suffers leg injuries

A man is in hospital after being injured while working underground at Glencore’s Oaky North coal mine.

The electrical contractor was airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital at noon on Friday after becoming pinned by a coal conveyor near the face of a longwall.

The man suffered leg injuries and is in a serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Two Queensland government mine inspectors travelled to the site on Friday and launched an investigation into the incident.
