Tropical storm affects Fortescue output

A severe tropical storm which swept across the Pilbara in late February has affected mining and processing operations at Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine in WA.

A severe tropical storm which swept across the Pilbara in late February has affected mining and processing operations at Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine in WA.

According to the iron ore miner, localised storm water build-up saturated ore piles and hindered output and production.

While port and rail operations were able to resume as normal immediately after the storm subsided, mining and processing operations are now working to catch up on lost production.

The full impact on production is still being assessed, with specific details to be released later in March 2009.
