Tradies better off than university graduates

Workers with vocational education and training behind them are earning significantly more than university graduates, according to new data.

AdelaideNow reports while the average bachelor degree graduate earns $50,000 a year, certificate III or IV graduates earn an average $53,200.

According to AdelaideNow workers with a diploma or better earn even more, at around $60,800 a year.

VET graduates are also more likely to find employment compared with university graduates, and Australian Workplace Innovation and Social Research Centre officials said the mining skills shortage was driving the result.
