Third prospector declared missing this year

A 59 year-old prospector who was thought missing near the Siberia Mine has made contact with his wife.

Kalgoorlie police said Robin Ballard last had contact with his family by SMS on July 20, prompting air searches which failed to locate the man and his pet dog.

Police said on Wednesday that Ballard had made contact with his wife.

This is the third prospector this year to give cause for search and rescue operations in the Goldfields region.

Brian Kane, 63, was found after two days in February when he failed to report home at a scheduled time.

Peter O’Shaughnessy, 76, was also found after two days in May.
