ENVIRONMENTAL issues feature heavily on the agenda of a two-day conference alongside AIMEX themed around the future of mining.
The conference run by Reed Exhibitions will cover topics including mining in a carbon tax environment, reducing the Carbon Footprint in Mining and environmental management.
NSW Minerals Council CEO Dr Nicole Williams will deliver a presentation on challenges facing the coal industry.
The conference will also cover technology trends with speakers such as CRC Mining Professor and CEO Mike Hood delivering a presentation on the trend towards mine expansions that will involve new mining approaches or highly modified mining methods.
Jock Cunningham, Research Leader of Metalliferous Mining Systems for the CSIRO will talk about the mine of the future in terms of management, equipment and techniques.
Olga Sawtell, CEO of AcuMine will deliver a presentation on how Rio Tinto and the Australian Centre for Field Robotics at Sydney University are working to further automate the unsafe, repetitious and tedious jobs at Rio’s mines globally. Peter Carter President & CEO of Modular Mining Systems will also talk about new mine information technologies.
Skills shortages are also on the agenda with personnel specialists delivering presentations on how smart mining companies can deal with skills and people shortages. Safety is another key topic with Dr Andrew Garvie, Principal Consultant (GeoEnvironmental) of SRK Consulting delivering a presentation on maintaining safety in mining.
