TerraCom has secured an extension to the mine life at the Blair Athol thermal coal operation in Queensland.
The company has upgraded Blair Athol’s JORC reserves from 15.6 million tonnes (Mt) to 18Mt after working with Deswik Mining Consultants at the operation since last September.
According to TerraCom, the upgrade adds one year to the Blair Athol mine life, which now stands at nine years based on production of 2Mt/y.
TerraCom is in the process of further developing its JORC indicated and measured resource footprint and plans to convert the economic areas of the revised resource footprint into further reserves. This could add another two to three years to the Blair Athol mine life.
Wal King, TerraCom chairman, said the reserve upgrade was significant for the Blair Athol operation as it enabled the mine plan to be extended.
He added “the further potential to increase the resource footprint is significant as it has the potential to increase the mine life by a further two to three years.”
