Swick wins massive contract

Swick Mining has been awarded its largest ever drilling contract.

Mining contractor Swick Mining Services has won a three year mining contract with Newmont worth more than $50 million.

The contract for underground diamond drilling at Newmont’s Jundee and Tanami gold mines is expected to begin as soon as April this year, with the contract outlining the option to extended services into a fourth year.

Swick has been carrying out drilling at the mines since April 2007 and currently has five drill rigs at Jundee and four at Tanami.

Under the new contract, an additional two rigs would begin operations at Tanami, taking the number of rigs in operation under Newmont from 9 to 11 in total.

In addition to these operations, Swick is also in discussions with Newmont regarding surface drilling programs.

The contract with Newmont is one of the largest awarded in Swick’s history.

The drilling services company expects to have a total of 63 drill rigs in operation across Australia and North America by July 2010.
