Swick awarded drilling contracts

Swick Mining Services have been awarded six new drilling contracts across its underground and surface mining divisions.

It has received a two year underground diamond drilling contract with Gold Fields at St Ives for six rigs; a one year underground diamond drilling contract at Rio Tinto’s Argyle diamond mine for two rigs; and a one year underground diamond drilling contract at La Mancha’s Frog’s Leg mine for one rig.

It received two contracts for Aditya Birla’s Mount Gordon mine, for one underground diamond drilling rig and two rigs for underground production; and a one year contract for RC drilling with Barrick Gold at its Granny smith mine.

According to the company’s managing director Kent Swick "we aim to service operating mines and have been successful in displacing long term incumbent contractors from these (above named) operations".

He went on to say that Swick’s "North American operations are also expected to rebound to prior levels of revenue by the end of the financial year as we are in the final stages of negotiating work, but are not able to formally announce these prospects at this time".

Additional rigs are also due for the Pajingo gold and Agnew gold mines.

Swick expects to have 50 drill rigs on sites by the end of the year.
