Sunrise Dam wins rescue comp

Emergency response personnel from 15 mining operations participated in the Chamber of Minerals & Energy Western Australia’s (CME) Annual Surface Mine Emergency Response Competition on 2 to 4 May in Kalgoorlie.

Emergency response personnel from 15 mining operations participated in the Chamber of Minerals & Energy Western Australia’s (CME) Annual Surface Mine Emergency Response Competition on 2 to 4 May in Kalgoorlie.

Event award winners included: 1st Best Team: AngloGold Ashanti Sunrise Dam; 2nd Best Team: BHP Billiton Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter & Concentrator (KNSC); 3rd Best Team: Gold Fields Agnew.

This year, a record 11 of the participating teams were comprised almost entirely of new team members, underscoring the Event’s importance as an opportunity for training and development.

The Event was held at the Australian Prospector’s and Miner’s Hall of Fame in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and was observed by more than 2,500 members of the general public.

Senior mining industry executives Marcelo Bastos of BHP Billiton Nickel West Ltd and Graham Ehm of AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd attended the presentation night.
