Storms close WA mines

Heavy rain across most of Western Australia’s southwest caused a number of coal mines to halt production this week.

Officials from Griffin Coal, which operates the Collie coal mines alongside Yancoal, said it shut mining operations at around 3pm on Wednesday.

Premier Coal, owned by Yancoal, also said its drainage and pumping systems were in operation and equipment had been moved to higher ground.

According to The West Australian production has now recommenced but the companies have given no indication on the impact the storms will have on their bottom line.
