Stop being so lazy if you’re jealous of my money: Rinehart

Mining magnate Gina Rinehart says those jealous of her fortune should "spend less time drinking or smoking and socialising, and more time working".

In a strongly worded opinion piece in Australian Resources and Investment magazine, Rinehart called for reductions to the minimum wage and praised the wealthy for creating jobs and investment.

"If you're jealous of those with more money, don't just sit there and complain," she said.

"Do something to make more money yourself — spend less time drinking or smoking and socialising, and more time working."

In a statement today Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union national president Tony Maher said Rinehart's comments illustrated her "twisted logic".

"At the same time as trying to import cheap foreign labour and avoid paying tax, Rinehart claims it's millionaires and billionaires who are the greatest for social good," he said.

"What planet is she living on?"
