Springvale coal is a finalist in the awards for the design and development of a new mine ventilation door.
The mine ventilation door allows for safe passage for stretcher-bearers and the easy break of pressure.
The old style ventilation doors used at Springvale Mine were a hinged type.
In 2005, a new ventilation shaft was commissioned which created increased pressures in areas of the mine that previously did not exist. Extensive consultation led to ideas being put forward by a cross section of the workforce.
The consultation included developing a prototype which was displayed so that recommendations about the design could be made. Today, there is no possibility for the door to close inadvertently.
