Southern Cross win Rio Yandi contract

Rio Tinto has awarded Southern Cross Electrical Engineering the contract for its Yandi power supply work.

According to Southern Cross it will provide the second portion of the Yandi Sustaining Project, which will see it design, supply, and construct a 33kV distribution overhead line.

As part of this project the existing 33kV overhead line distribution that supplies Rio' mine facilities from its Yandi 220kV switchyard will be upgraded, with new section of powerline to be installed.

The contract is worth around $29 million, and scheduled for completion in January 2014.

Simon High, Southern Cross' managing director, stated that the company was "extremely pleased to be awarded the second portion of the contract".

Southern Cross Electrical's subsidiary K.J. Johnson & Co. will carry out the work.
