South Australia has seen nearly a doubling in the number of teams for its mines rescue competition.
The annual event will see teams from Perliya, OZ Minerals, Kingsgate Consolidated, Terramin, Uranium One, and two teams from BHP Billiton go head to head for the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy’s (SACOME) Perpetual Trophy.
The event is aimed at honing their emergency response skills.
SACOME chief Jason Kuchel said he was extremely pleased that we have seven participating teams this year, six of which are based in South Australia.
"It gives the teams a real chance to meet with each other and learn from each other’s skills, which may be called upon in the event of a real emergency.
"Ensuring a safe and enduring sector is critical, and this event provides an opportunity for emergency response teams to brush up on their skills and training, and share information.
"It also provides a great opportunity for some friendly rivalry."
The teams will face challenges such as high rope rescues, using breathing apparatus, fire fighting, first air, theory, basic skills, and road crash rescues.
The event will be held at Hillgrove Resources’ Kanmantoo copper mine, Terramin’s Angas zinc mine, and the CFS Training Centre at Brukunga.
