“This is a challenging area for any company that deals with resources located in or near to areas of ecological, cultural and historical sensitivity,” Exploration & Mining Acting Chief Dr Steve Harvey says.

“It is also difficult for companies relying on large labour forces which may need to work in remote and hostile landscapes.

“Then, when you consider the potential and challenges of an entirely new frontier of mining, such as the seabed, it takes on a whole new set of issues.”
