Self-combusting fire at Stanwell Power Station contained

A fire raged out of control at the Stanwell Power Station on Tuesday night, and fire fighters raced to control the blaze.

Queensland Fire and Rescue said the blaze was sparked at about 11pm when coal in the pulverising mill self-combusted.

Two fire fighting crews arrived about midnight, and together with Stanwell workers, were able to control the blaze by cooling the area externally.

The emergency crew left about 3am and a Stanwell spokesperson said no injuries were sustained and the fire would not impact normal operations.

“The fire was largely contained inside the mill with only minor external damage to electrical cabling and compressed airlines,” he said.
