Sandvik has appointed Scot Smith as its new global president of mining.
Smith, who is currently the head of the Suzler Pumps division, will step into the role immediately.
He was previously the head of Weir Group’s mining division.
Smith will replace current president Gary Hughes, who will now move the role of head of sales and marketing for Sandvik Mining.
“Gary Hughes has contributed substantially to our mining operations during difficult times, providing Scot Smith with an excellent platform to develop our business even further. Smith will strengthen the Sandvik Mining management team, while Gary Hughes will make a great contribution to the team in his new role focusing on sales and marketing,” sOlof Faxander, CEO of Sandvik, said.
“Smith has extensive experience from relevant industries and companies. With his background, they he is highly suited to the task of bringing forward our mining business.”
The company has also appointed Asa Thunman to the role of Sandvik’s general counsel.
She comes from Securtias AB, where she is currently the senior vice president general counsel.
In addition to these changes at the top, Sandvik has also brought in executives from R&D and emerging markets into its group executive management.
