Sandfire has begun underground mining at the DeGrussa copper gold mine.

The first truckload of massive sulphide ore has been delivered to the ROM pad ready processing in the September quarter.

Karl Simich, Sandfire’s managing director, said the commencement of underground mining was an achievement for the company, and was ahead of schedule.

The operation comes just a fortnight after Sandfire mine its first DSO from the open pit.

As of March last year, the DeGrussa open cut and underground operations had a total JORC resources of 465 000 tonnes of copper and 485 000 ounces of gold.
