The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy has welcomed news that OZ Minerals is moving its HQ from Melbourne to Adelaide.
Announcing the plan as part of its December quarterly report, Oz Minerals CEO Andrew Cole said the company needed to ‘reshape’ itself to meet the challenges of a changing resource sector.
It comes after the company signed a multi-million dollar partnership with the South Australian government that would open up future opportunities through joint development of infrastructure.
The partnership includes the South Australian Government providing funding of $10 million for testwork, at a demonstration plant scale, for a hydrometallurgical process which could see significant benefits for the copper-gold Carrapateena project. OZ Minerals has committed $18 million to this testwork in 2015.
Chief executive of SACOME Jason Kuchel said the move by Oz Minerals would create a boost to SA’s economy.
“By moving its head office here OZ Minerals will provide additional jobs for South Australians, attract qualified resources professionals to our State, and use an additional range of professional services that may otherwise have been sourced interstate,” Kuchel said.
OZ Minerals will join the ranks of other resources companies such as Santos, Beach Energy, Iron Road and Cooper Energy whose head offices are all located in Adelaide.
