The New Zealand government has announced two additional  commissioners  as well as  a completion timeline for the Royal Commission into the Pike River tragedy.

Former electoral commission boss David Henry and Queensland Commissioner for Mine Safety Stewart Bell will join Justice Graham Pankhurst on the Royal Commission.

The government has set the timeframe for their findings, stating that the commission must present its findings no later than March 2012.

In other Pike River news, the company today announced it is to be placed into receivership as it struggles to pay back debts,  after  continued explosions and fires  inside the coal mine have made it impossible to re-open.

Workers finally capped the mine yesterday, with two large plates lowered using a helicopter, onto the mine’s ventilation shaft.
