An investigation has been launched into a tragic incident involving a contract worker at the Roy Hill iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

A DIAB Engineering employee who sustained serious injuries after the accident has passed away due to his injuries.

The worker was injured early Monday morning when he was completing work at the Roy Hill mine on behalf of the NRW Holdings subsidiary.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service flew the injured worker to Perth for hospital treatment but he died of his injuries on Monday night, NRW confirmed.

“We are devastated by the loss of our colleague and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” NRW stated in an ASX announcement.

“NRW’s number one priority is the safety and well-being of our workforce. Support has been extended to the worker’s family and colleagues.

“At the request of his family, NRW has not released his name and will not be providing any further details at this time.”

NRW and DIAB are both assisting Roy Hill and the relevant authorities with the investigation into the accident.

DIAB was acquired by NRW Holdings in December 2019, as part of its takeover of BGC Contracting.
