Rio Tinto has appointed a new managing director for its diamonds business.
From September 1, Jean-Marc Lieberherr will take over the managing director’s position and will be responsible for all aspects of the diamonds business.
Lieberherr joined Rio’s diamond division in 2005 as its chief commercial officer. His appointment comes after Rio decided to keep its diamonds business after initially attempting to exit the sector.
Kim Truter, who was appointed managing director of Argyle mine last year, will report to Lieberherr as chief operating officer.
Rio recently announced it will not sell its Pacific Aluminium subsidiary, with CEO Sam Walsh saying it could not manage a “value-drive sale”.
