The Queensland Government has issued an environment authority permit to Resolute Mining for its Ravenswood expansion project in north Queensland.

The permit, which took immediate effect, allows Resolute to expand the existing Nolans tailing storage facility (NTSF) at its Ravenswood gold mine.

It also allows Resolute to proceed with in-pit tailings storage for the Ravenswood expansion project, allowing safe tailings storage for the mine’s entire 10-year life.

Resolute managing director and chief executive John Welborn thanked the Queensland government for its support in getting the environment authority permit finalised.

“The simplified tailings management strategy developed in the Ravenswood expansion project has significant operating benefits and is now supported by the required environmental approvals,” Welborn said.

“All major approvals are now in place for a development plan that can accommodate and expansion of annual production to 200,000 ounces of gold over a 10-year mine life, with available gold resources of almost six million ounces.”

Resolute has secured new mining leases at Ravenswood, a prescribed project status to its expansion project, the Buck Reef West environmental authority amendment, heritage agreements and environmental authority to recommence mining at Sarsfield open pit.

The first stage of the Ravenswood expansion has already started, with the recommissioning of the third grinding mill at Nolans processing plant under way.

Once complete, this will enable Resolute to return to a processing rate of five million tonnes per annum at Ravenswood. Resolute expects the mill recommissioning will be fully operational by the end of the current quarter.

Resolute will also develop two major pits at Buck Reef West and Sarsfield, while investigating ways to further enhance the project.

The company is strategically reviewing options at Ravenswood for further growth potential, with a focus on processing expansions, mine life extensions and improved environmental outcomes.
