Resolute Mining has enjoyed a golden September quarter, pouring a total of 103,201 ounces of the precious metal.
This is 25,069 ounces more than the June quarter, with the Syama gold mine in Mali producing 45,804 ounces of this total, comprising 33,074 ounces from the oxide circuit and 12,730 ounces from the sulphide circuit.
Resolute’s key focus in the September quarter was commissioning the Syama automated mining system and successfully completing the site acceptance testing.
This was a major achievement for Resolute as it sets out to commission the world’s most advanced automation mining system.
During testing, automated loaders collected ore from the bottom of ore passes on the 1055th level then loaded automated trucks via a split-level loading facility.
Additionally, the trucks travelled up the underground decline under laser guidance before transitioning to satellite GPS guidance upon exit, then continued to dump ore on the run-of-mine pad.
Resolute managing director and chief executive officer John Welborn said these results delivered on the company’s objective of becoming a low-cost, multi-mine, African-focussed producer.
“Delivering quarterly gold production in excess off 100,000 ounces is the new normal for Resolute,” Welborn said.
“Achieving major commissioning milestones at our new underground mine at Syama is encouraging as the team ramp up production to full capacity.
“While unscheduled maintenance and repairs (at Syama) during the quarter limited sulphide circuit quarterly production, we remain confident and committed to achieving our processing objectives.”
Resolute’s newest mine, Mako in Senegal, also had an excellent month, producing 44,191 ounces of gold.
Mako’s processed tonnages, grades and recoveries were all ahead of budget and forecast, despite a four-day planned shutdown during August.
Ravenswood was also consistent, producing 13,206 ounces and starting the first stage of its expansion project, recommissioning a third mill to increase processing capacity to five million tonnes per annum.
Resolute’s total gold production for the first three quarters of 2019 now totals 279,438 ounces.
