Red River Resources has launched development of the Far West zinc project, which would be its second underground mine at Thalanga in central Queensland.

The company has awarded the Far West surface development contract to Pybar Mining Services, which is already undertaking mining operations at the West 45 underground mine at Thalanga.

In an ASX announcement last week, Red River said the Far West portal site had been cleared and drilling had commenced.

“Underground development is expected to commence shortly after the completion of the box cut. The company is going through the contractor selection process for the underground development,” Red River stated.

Far West has a JORC reserve of 1.5Mt at 12 per cent zinc equivalent, with a minimum mine life of five years.

Red River started producing zinc, copper and lead concentrates at Thalanga last September.
