The cost of resurrecting the Ravensthorpe nickel mine has jumped to $200 million.
This increased price comes after First Quantum announced plans to expand the refurbishment of the nickel treatment plant.
It said the modifications will allow for further enhancements.
While the miner stated that the upgrades were not critical to plant operation, but would increase efficiency over the long term.
“While we’ve got the plant down completely, it’s an opportunity to make those changes that if it was running you just wouldn’t do," First Quantum president Clive Newall said.
The Canadian miner acquired the closed mine from BHP last year at a cost of US$339 million.
