Rail closure in Hunter Valley

Rail lines have been closed between Newcastle and Maitland, leaving coal services on the Hunter Valley line temporarily suspended.

A spokesperson for rail operator ARTC said the line was closed sue to flooding at Sandgate.

A further update from ARTC is expected to become available after 1:30pm today.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issues further flood warning for Hunter River, including the Belmore Bridge at Maitland, which is expected to reach 7.0m (5.7m and rising at midday), while at Bulga the river has reached 4.53m and is expected to reach 5.1m.

A spokesperson for Glencore has reported business as usual for their open cut mines, however operations have been slowed for safety reasons.
