The Queensland Mining Awards has announced its cohort of finalists, ranging from small, locally owned companies such as Mackay-based QCCS and HMA Wear Solutions, to large contractors such as Downer, McLanahan and Wolff and producers Rio Tinto.
Co-host Bowen Basin Mining Club director Jodie Currie said that the calibre of submission suggested a clear show of industry recovery.
“It’s fantastic to be celebrating our industry with such a strong show of innovation, collaboration and productivity targets,” Currie stated.
Finalists were selected on the basis of their contribution to the industry, measured through their productivity increase, and outcomes that could be effectively replicated for success.
Currie said, “Thanks to our co-hosts, the Queensland Resources Council, the new Collaboration and Safety categories included a brilliant number of entries from industry producers, highlight important initiatives.”
The panel of judges included open cut, underground and minerals industry leaders across various fields including operations, management and procurement and logistics, including Peter Kane, chief operating officer, Coal Group; Dan Kadziela, head of business development, Minerals Australia, BHP; Ian Rees, chief advisor and integrated planning, Rio Tinto Aluminium; Michael Jones, production manager, Jellinbah Resources; Margaret Davies, former supply chain manager, Anglo American; and Suzanne Mitchell, regional practice manager, EconomX.
Category winners and the 2018 Queensland Mining Contractor of the Year will be announced on July 25 in Mackay.
