Quarry fatality under investigation

A worker was fatally injured at a quarry near Townsville, North Queensland, on Saturday 4 July 2009, when the truck he was driving tipped over and crashed into a rock embankment.

A worker was fatally injured at a quarry near Townsville, North Queensland, on Saturday 4 July 2009, when the truck he was driving tipped over and crashed into a rock embankment.

According to the Queensland Mines Inspectorate, the water truck was descending the haul road from the upper area of the quarry at the time of the accident.

The Mines Inspectorate is investigating the accident.

A detailed report into the accident will be submitted to the Chief Inspector of Mines and to the State’s Coroner.
