QR national approve Goonyella coal rail expansion

QR National has approved a $185 million expansion of the Goonyella coal rail network.

QR National has approved a $185 million expansion of the Goonyella coal rail network.

The development of the rail network is to support additional expansion of the Hay Point Coal Terminal.

Named the Goonyella System Expansion (GSE) 140 project, it will allow an extra 11 million tonnes of coal to make its way along the rail network, pushing capacity up to 140 million tones per annum.

This rail expansion is supported by BMA and will come on line in early 2014.

The approval of the Goonyella network follows the recent $300 million investment into QR’s construction of the ‘missing southern link’ between the Surat Basin and the Port of Gladstone.

The Goonyella rail system hauls coal to Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay and is the largest single export coal network in Australia.
