QLD songwriter labels Australian mining industry a “whore”

The mining industry has been called many things, but never has it been publically called a whore … until now.

Radio stations have refused to play Queensland song writer John Gordon’s anti-mining song but he will perform it at an anti-coal meeting in Toowoomba tonight.

The song, titled Australia (Whore of the World) accuses the country of washing its hands of climate change consequences with the coal it creates and allowing mining companies to do whatever they want for money.

"What Australia is doing, sending hundreds of millions of tonnes of coal offshore each year, in this age of climate change, is not only irresponsible, it’s highly perverse," Gordon told the Courier Mail.

"The song’s message shines a light on this well-rehearsed practice of washing our hands of our coal and being almost in denial about what happens to it when it reaches its destination."

Radio stations have refused to play his song, despite getting airtime with previous numbers, Gordon said.
