QLD premier open to state mining loans despite Adani block

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, who last November vetoed the approval of a $1 billion Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) loan for a rail line in support of Adani’s Carmichael coal mine, has said that mining projects in the Galilee Basin are to be considered by State Government on merit.

Palasczczuk was responding to a written question from Greens MP Michael Berkman, saying, “Any NAIF proposal will be given proper consideration and assessed on its merits by the Queensland government.

“I am advised by my director-general that the Queensland Government is not aware of any other active NAIF proposals relating to mining development in the Galilee Basin.”

Palasczczuk received some criticism for the move, particularly from the Liberal National Party (LNP), which accused the premier of putting thousands of potential jobs at risk and attempted to block her attempts at a veto.
