QLD farmers to fight bauxite exploration

Some Queensland farmers say a mining exploration company wants to access their properties for bauxite exploration.

The ABC is reporting farmers in South Burnett are concerned about their land and have formed the Kingaroy Concerned Citizens Group to deal with the issues.

Ross Whiteford, from the group, told the ABC farmers have only just begun recovering from their fight to stop an underground coal gasification trial.

He said now the Queensland government wants to mine the region.

Landholders against the exploration will meet next month and Whiteford has called for farmers from across the region who believe they are on red volcanic soil to attend the meeting next month.
