QLD coal mine on hold

Tarong Energy has put its thermal coal project in Queensland’s South Burnett region on hold.

Tarong Energy has put its thermal coal project in Queensland’s South Burnett region on hold.

The new Kunioon coal mine, which was to generate energy for Tarong’s power stations, was set to begin production in 2012.

However, a recent discovery of additional coal at Tarong’s existing Meandu mine has pushed back the new mine’s development.

The company has extended the life of its Meandu mine until 2025, and plans to focus mining on this existing project.
