Power restored at Olympic Dam

Full power has been restored at BHP’s Olympic Dam following South Australia’s severe storms.

Production was briefly halted when the state lost power on September 28, with the company able to “safely shut down operations”.

Back up generators were used to provide power for their critical infrastructure.

The company is now working to resume full production.

“Electranet advised that the final line had been re-energised, enabling full power to be restored at Olympic Dam,” BHP said.

“While some work continued in underground operations during the power outage, the focus now is to safely transition our surface operations from a period of care and maintenance back into full production.”
