Western Australian attorney-general Christian Porter has voiced support for mining magnate Gina Rinehart's call for a special economic zone in WA's mining regions.
PerthNow reports Porter said Australians were unwilling to move to find work and new policy settings needed to encourage relocation.
Earlier this month the Federal Opposition said creating a special economic zone for parts of Australia was an idea worth exploring but it needed more discussion.
If the idea were to proceed the special zone would create tax breaks and other incentives for companies doing business in remote areas suffering from skills shortages and a lack of infrastructure.
In the same speech Porter also warned high wages risked derailing mining projects in WA.
The West Australian reports Porter said resources companies could not afford to continue paying high wages while commodity prices flattened.
