Pilbara Ports Authority achieves record year

Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) has delivered record annual throughput in the 2017-18 financial year.

PPA recorded 699.3 million tonnes (Mt) for the fiscal year, a 5 per cent increase on the previous year’s mark.

In June, PPA achieved a total monthly throughput of 63.4Mt, a 14 per cent increase on the previous year.

The Port of Port Hedland achieved a record annual throughput of 519Mt, an increase of 18.4Mt (or 4 per cent) on the previous year.

Its iron ore exports for the year totalled 508.9Mt, a 14.3Mt (or 3 per cent) rise on the previous year. In June, exports were 10 per cent higher against last year at 47.2Mt.

Imports, meanwhile, were 1.7Mt for the year, a 6 per cent increase on the previous year.

The Port of Dampier delivered an annual throughput of 177.3Mt, an increase of 9.6Mt or 6 per cent on the previous year.

In June, the port reached throughput of 14.6Mt, an increase of 2.8Mt or 24 per cent on the same month in 2017.
