Pilbara FIFO plane emergency landing

A FIFO plane transporting workers from Fortescue’s Solomon Hub to Perth was forced to make an emergency landing after unknown fumes began filling the cabin.

The Jetstar plane, which was carrying 87 FMG workers, was forced to land at Solomon, north of Rio Tinto’s Tom Price mine, only 15 minutes into the flight, The West reports.

"The captain operating the flight elected to return to Solomon after being notified by cabin crew of an unusual smell in the rear of the cabin," a Jetstar spokesperson told The West.

"The flight landed safely at Solomon Airport without incident."

“Fortescue’s Emergency Services team were waiting at the site and examined all passengers and crew who were cleared to fly back to Perth on recovery services later in the day,” a FMG spokesperson added.

A second flight running between FMG’s Cloudbreak mine and Perth stopped at Solomon to pick up the workers.
