Clive Palmer has erected a massive yellow billboard to kick off his federal politics campaign.
The Courier Mail reports the sign features Palmer giving the thumbs up with text claiming: “Together we can achieve the extraordinary.”
A spokesperson for Palmer told the Courier Mail the billboard was the start of a public awareness campaign.
“This billboard is to let the people of Lilley know they have alternatives to Wayne Swan at the next federal election,” they said.
Palmer announced the billboard on Twitter yesterday, and asked followers “how serious” Treasurer Wayne Swan was about retaining his seat.
Earlier this year Palmer announced he would be contesting Swan’s seat, which the Treasurer has held since 1998.
In announcing the move Palmer denied it was a stunt, and said his entrance into politics was aimed at getting the country “moving again”.
"This is not a stunt … it's a factual reality," he said.
According to the Courier Mail Swan said he expected Palmer to eventually give up on the challenge and “run away at a hundred miles an hour”.
“If he doesn’t run, it’ll be the most humiliating back down of his career,” he said.
