OZ Minerals chief financial officer Luke Anderson has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of rail operator Genesee & Wyoming Australia (GWA).

GWA is a subsidiary of United States based Genesee & Wyoming, which is listed on the New York stock exchange.

OZ Minerals CEO Andrew Cole thanked Anderson for his contribution to the company and congratulated him on his new appointment.

“This is an excellent, Adelaide-based opportunity for Luke and the role complements his previous experience as chief executive of US industrials minerals company, Unimin Corporation,” he said.

In December 2016, GWA completed its acquisition of Glencore Rail (GRail) in the New South Wales Hunter Valley. The sale included nine train sets and a contract between GWA and Glencore to exclusively haul all coal produced at GC’s mines in the Hunter Valley to the Port of Newcastle.

Anderson will leave OZ Minerals in September to begin his new role.
