Gina Rinehart's plan to hire 1,700 foreign workers has drawn an overwhelmingly negative response from our online readers.
On our Facebook page most readers vented anger at Rinehart and the Government over the plans.
Readers also questioned whether Rinehart's motivations were for the benefit of her hip-pocket or the Australian people.
While the Government says foreign workers must earn the same wages and conditions as Australians, many expressed concern about labour imports putting downward pressure on Australian pay rates.
Many also asked what precedent the move set for our future workforce, and questioned the validity of claims the skills shortage had forced companies to look overseas.
But the plan also garnered some support, with readers seeing the potential for foreign labour to help projects get online and create more jobs for Australian workers.
