NSW to help fill 8,500 Pilbara mining jobs

The Illawarra region of NSW is set to host a jobs forum to help find 8,500 workers for Gina Rinehart's Roy Hill mine in the Pilbara.

The Illawarra Mercury reports recruitment firm Skilled is already taking expressions of interest for the new positions.

While details of the expo are yet to be finalised it's expected to be held before October, and will be Roy Hill's first jobs forum outside Western Australia.

Last month Roy Hill officials sent a letter to Illawarra MP Stephen Jones asking for the contact details of skilled workers willing to operate in the Pilbara.

The letter also said Hancock Prospecting would consider targeting Illawarra workers in a recruitment campaign.

"Should you believe any of your constituents wouldn’t mind the Pilbara conditions, please could you or your office or community leaders advise their contact details?" it read.
