Norseman slashes 33 gold jobs

Perth based miner Norseman Gold has announced it will cut 33 positions from its gold mine in Western Australia.

The company said on Friday the decision to terminate employees was made after a comprehensive review of its operations was completed.

Norseman said it is continuing to evaluate operation’s remnant mining program.

In December the company said narrow ore veins at its operations are forcing operating costs up.

In response to rising wage, input and infrastructure costs Norseman implemented a cost saving program throughout 2013.

The program saw workforce numbers drop from 250 workers to around 70, roster changes made and alterations to its processing plant operations implemented.
