Very few mining companies are looking to hire unskilled workers, says recruitment firm Hays.
News Limited reports Hays resources and mining director Simon Winfield said successful candidates for mining jobs possessed a "very unique combination of characteristics".
"Employers are looking for skilled professionals with relevant industry experience, often in the local region," he said.
Winfield also said candidates needed to have a "genuine interest" in the industry and be able to cope with harsh and isolated working environments.
