Gold miner Newmont Mining has extended its air charter contract with Alliance Aviation Services by a further three years.

Alliance, which has been providing services to Newmont since 2012, is now contracted to fly for the United States-based miner until 2021.

The agreement includes Alliance operating flights from Darwin to Newmont’s Granites gold mine near Tanami in the Northern Territory.

Alliance chief executive officer Lee Schofield said the contract extension would see the air charter company providing Newmont with services from bases in Perth, Brisbane and a newly-established operational base in Darwin.

“With Alliance undertaking flights between Darwin and the Granites itself, rather than through a subcontractor, it increases our flying for Newmont by approximately 25 per cent,” Schofield said.

Alliance added the contract was retained through a competitive tendering process.
